Prepare for Austria with clear guidance on the documents, VFS appointment and steps from application review to passport return.

A few days in Vienna, time in Salzburg or a lakeside stay in Hallstatt: start with the trip you actually want to take. Your form, reservations and supporting documents should tell the same story.
This guide is for Philippine passport holders applying from the Philippines for tourism. WITH VEYA helps prepare and review the application, with guidance through appointment readiness, tracking and passport return.

START WITH YOUR ROUTE
Is Austria your main destination?
Apply through Austria when it is your sole or main Schengen destination. Review the purpose and duration of the trip. For a tourism-only route, this generally means the longest stay; where no main destination can be identified, first entry determines responsibility. Apply through the representation responsible for where you legally reside.
A family visit, business trip or longer stay may need a different checklist. We confirm the relevant preparation scope before work begins.
BUILD A CLEAR FILE
What to prepare
Application and photograph
Use the current Schengen Visa C form. Complete it in English or German, print and sign it; a legal guardian signs for a minor. Attach an unretouched photo taken within the last six months, 3.5 × 4.5 cm in colour, with a light background.
Passport and copies
Your passport must be no older than 10 years, have two blank pages and remain valid at least three months beyond the requested visa’s expiry. Include the biodata-page copy and relevant previous Schengen visas. Follow the current originals-and-copies instructions.
Work, study and ties at home
- Employees: employment certificate, approved leave and latest income tax return.
- Business owners: DTI / SEC registration, latest tax return and business financial statements.
- Students: enrollment evidence and leave approval when traveling during term.
- Relevant PSA family records and evidence of economic ties; use documents that fit your circumstances.
Financial evidence
Prepare evidence covering the last six months: personal bank statements showing regular income, bank certification / bank books or credit-card statements or balances, as applicable. A child’s financial evidence comes from the parent or guardian. Keep the funds consistent with the stated trip cost.
Prepare supporting copies on A4 paper. Documents outside English or German need an appropriate translation; foreign documents issued outside the Philippines or Austria may need legalization or an Apostille. The Embassy can request more evidence.
KEEP THE DATES CONSISTENT
Travel plans and required insurance
Reservations and itinerary
Prepare a return-flight reservation in your name, accommodation confirmation and a day-by-day itinerary showing dates in every Schengen country. A paid airline ticket is not required at application.
Travel medical insurance
Insurance is required for the full stay across the Schengen area, with at least €30,000 cover, including medical repatriation. The Embassy does not accept policies excluding pandemic illness. Check the current accepted-insurer guidance before buying. Insurance costs remain separate from WITH VEYA’s package.
FOR YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES
Children, families and sponsored visits
For children, prepare PSA birth records, the guardian’s passport copy and financial evidence. A child traveling alone or with one parent may need consent from the non-traveling parent or proof of sole custody, plus DSWD clearance when traveling alone. Follow the official checklist’s exception where the father is not named on the birth certificate.
For family travel, include the relevant PSA marriage and birth records. If someone in Austria is hosting or funding the trip, confirm the family/friends checklist and whether an electronic declaration of sponsorship (EVE) is required.
Children and nonstandard applications are quoted individually. A sponsor does not replace the assessment of the applicant’s circumstances.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Submission and biometrics
The Embassy directs applicants to submit in person through VFS in Makati or Cebu. Check the current centre and your appointment confirmation rather than relying on an old address.
Fingerprints are normally collected for a first Schengen application. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprints; earlier records may be reusable within 59 months. Neither point automatically waives attendance. Confirm any exception with VFS, and be ready to attend if fresh biometrics or an Embassy interview is requested.
WITH VEYA cannot replace required personal attendance. Do not arrange representative submission without confirmation that it is permitted for your application.
LEAVE TIME BEFORE TRAVEL
Processing, tracking and passport return
The Embassy’s Manila guidance indicates 14 days for a complete file, with 10 extra days for mailing Cebu applications. VFS describes 10 working days after the Embassy receives all required documents, excluding transport. Allow extra time rather than treating either estimate as a promised return date.
Austria’s general guidance allows longer assessment of up to 45 calendar days when further checks are needed. Track through VFS and follow the collection or courier instructions issued for your file. Confirm identification, authorization and any optional return charges before collection; do not assume another person can collect automatically.
An application or dispatch update is not an approval notice. Once the passport is returned, check the name, validity, number of entries and permitted stay before finalizing travel.
